Emma graduated from McMaster University in 2018 with an MSc in Physiotherapy after graduating from uOttawa with a BSc in Human Kinetics in 2015. Throughout her university studies, Emma served as a member of the Sports Physiotherapy Canada Ontario executive committee, was the student therapist for the uOttawa women’s rugby team, and worked with Team Canada’s medical team at the Rio 2016 Olympics (with the hopes of returning to another
Olympics soon)!
Emma has worked with a variety of populations, from young athletes to weekend warriors, active military members, veterans, and just about everyone in between. This has helped to shape her ability to develop tailored programs and treatment plans for people of all ages and all activity levels. In recent years, she was the lead physiotherapist of a very successful aquatic therapy program that provided a unique setting for active rehabilitation.
Growing up in Ottawa, Emma’s life revolved around a busy, competitive soccer schedule until she suffered her second ACL injury. No stranger to a daunting rehabilitation process, she was extremely fortunate to work with a talented physiotherapist. They inspired her throughout her journey, giving her ownership and responsibility for her own care. With such an exemplary professional model, Emma now hopes to ‘pay it forward’ by providing her clients with a similarly positive and empowering experience.
Emma is a lifelong learner and has already taken several courses in acupuncture, dry needling, athletic taping, K-taping and Part A of the McKenzie Method for the low back. She completed her certification as a concussion physiotherapist and looks forward to completing her sports physiotherapy certificate in the near future.
Emma’s treatment style is a combination approach of manual therapy and tailored, functional exercises that relate to the goals at hand. Emma believes in breaking down troublesome or painful activities into smaller components in order to train the system as a whole and work to achieve a functional movement pattern. She believes in encouraging her clients to be their best selves and incorporates a variety of tools to support their individual needs.
Emma’s personal motto is “leave people better than you found them” and she looks forward to working with you to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
