Acupuncture
A traditional Chinese medicine technique, involving the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific anatomical points on the body.
Anatomical acupuncture is the use of traditional acupuncture points based on the physiotherapist’s knowledge of anatomy and physiology to manage pain and treat chronic conditions.
Dry Needling and GunnIMS
Dry needling is the insertion of fine, sterile needles into tight bands of muscle, to create a local twitch response in the muscle. This stimulates the nerves powering this muscle to function more effectively.
GunnIMS is a whole-body approach to diagnosing and treating persistent myofascial pain using dry needling, with consideration for dysfunction in the nervous system.
Neurodynamics
Our nerves are designed to slide and glide between our joints, muscles and other tissues as we move through our day. This “slide and glide” lets us move in all sorts of creative ways.
When nerve movement becomes restricted, the information the nerves give to your muscles and tissues become a bit less “crisp”. This can place your body at greater risk for sprains, strains and chronic pain. Neurodynamic treatments and exercises are designed to restore the natural slide and glide of the nervous system.

Ottawa Physiotherapy Clinic FAQs
Our physiotherapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to eliminate it.
Every patient’s condition and pain is unique, so our physiotherapist will use a variety of hands-on assessment and treatment techniques, strength exercises, education and coaching that is directed specifically at your condition to relieve pain quickly and restore your function to optimum levels.
Our overall goal is to restore pain-free mobility and function, and to prevent the injury or pain from recurring.
Typically, the first physio session, which is an assessment and a treatment, lasts for 1 hour. Follow-up sessions are booked for 30 or 60 minutes. The amount of time will be based on your specific needs, and your therapist will discuss this with you.
Every person is unique and every problem is unique. Some of our clients eliminate their pain and restore their function in 2 to 3 weeks. Some problems take 6 to 8 weeks, some can take a few months, and in rare cases, longer. Treatment should only be continued if it is helping. If our treatment plan isn’t helping, it should be changed. The treatment response is highly variable and depends on:
- How complicated and difficult the problem is
- How long you have had the problem
- How significant the structural damage is
- Your motivation
- Your ability/willingness to modify your activities, aggravating factors, etc.
We help clients overcome a wide range of common conditions at our centre, including but not limited to:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Concussion
- Sports injuries
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
